◆ Family jeweller · King Street · Richmond, since 1992

Done here.
Engraving and repairs, on the premises.

A family jeweller on King Street in Richmond, run by Chris Lightfoot for more than thirty years. We resize and repair, engrave gifts by hand and laser, and draw up one of a kind pieces in 3D CAD. Most of it happens at the bench out the back, not posted away to a workshop in another town.

AT THE BENCH · ON THE PREMISES

Bring it in, and the work stays in Richmond.

Most small-town jewellers post their repairs and engraving away to a trade workshop, and you wait while it travels. We do ours here, at 9 King Street, so we can look at the actual piece, tell you what it needs, and give you a cost and a time before anything begins.

“Friendly, efficient and quick. They resized my rings and sorted my watch, and the advice was genuinely worth having. Highly recommended.” From a Richmond customer review

WHAT WE DO · FOUR THINGS UNDER ONE ROOF

Repairs, engraving, lasering and bespoke, all on King Street.

Repairs

Ring resizing, chain and clasp work, restringing, watch repairs and batteries. We work piece by piece, so bring the item into the shop and we cost and time it against the actual repair, not a tariff. Most of it is done here, at the bench on King Street.

Engraving

A personal touch on the gift, done on the premises. Christening presents and tankards, picture frames and glassware, names, initials, or a whole message. Not flat metal alone, but the awkward shapes a trade workshop posts back unfinished.

Bespoke, by 3D CAD

Bring in an idea, a sketch or an old piece you no longer wear, and we draw it up in 3D CAD and make it into one of a kind. Pricing on request, once we have seen the stones and talked it through at the counter.

Lasering

New to the shop this year. A laser lets us personalise a far wider range than metal alone, onto slate, wood, leather and more. The kind of thing you cannot get done over a website, only over a counter on King Street.

SINCE 1992 · ON KING STREET

A family jeweller, in its fourth decade in the same town.

We are a family jewellers, established in Richmond in 1992, run by Chris Lightfoot. More than thirty years on, we are still at 9 King Street, a few doors off the cobbled Market Place, with the castle keep at the top of the town and the Swale below it.

What has not changed is how the work is done. The repairs and the engraving happen on the premises, the costing is done piece by piece with the item in front of us, and the people who serve you are the people who do the work. The newest addition, a laser, sits at the same bench the engraving has always been done at.

  • 1992The Lightfoot family open on King Street, Richmond.
  • 2000sEngraving and repairs settle in as the bench work the shop is known for.
  • 2010s3D CAD added, so one-off bespoke pieces can be drawn before they are made.
  • 2026A laser is introduced, taking personalisation onto slate, wood and leather.
  • TodayChris Lightfoot, still at 9 King Street, still doing the work here.
THE THING WE GET ASKED FOR MOST

Engraving onto the things a postal service will not take.

Anyone can mark a flat plaque. The work we are proudest of is the awkward shape, the tankard a christening is celebrated on, the picture frame, the glass, and now slate, wood and leather under the laser. Because it is all done on the premises, we can take it.

  • Costed piece by piece. The price follows the actual item in front of us, not a printed tariff, so a quick fix stays a quick price.
  • Not metal alone. Tankards, glassware, picture frames, slate, wood and leather, the materials a trade workshop sends back unfinished.
  • Drawn before it is made. A one-off piece is set out in 3D CAD first, so you see it before we cut a single stone.
START SOMETHING · NO OBLIGATION

Tell us what you have in mind.

A short note to start the conversation. The real work happens at the counter, once we can see the piece, the gift or the stones in person. Or just phone 01748 850840 and ask for Chris.

  • We reply by email, usually within a day or two.
  • Bring the piece, the gift or a picture of the idea to the counter.
  • We cost and time the work before anything is agreed.

QUESTIONS · FIVE WE GET MOST

Quick answers, then bring it in.

Can you resize my engagement or wedding ring?

Yes. Ring resizing is one of the things we are asked for most, and it is done here on the premises. Bring it in and we will look at the band, talk through what is involved, and give you an accurate cost and time before any work starts.

Do you repair watches and change batteries?

Yes. Watch repairs and battery changes are done in the shop. We work piece by piece, so call in with the watch and we will tell you what it needs there and then, rather than send it away and guess.

Can you engrave a christening gift, a tankard or glassware?

That is the heart of the engraving work. Names, initials or a full message, on christening presents and tankards, picture frames and glassware. All of it is engraved on the premises, so we can take the awkward shapes a postal service will not.

Can you laser onto slate, wood or leather?

Yes. We introduced a laser this year, which lets us personalise far more than metal, including slate, wood and leather. If you have something a bit different in mind, bring it in and we will tell you whether it will take a mark.

Can you make a one-off piece from my own idea?

Yes. We take an idea or a sketch, draw it up in 3D CAD and make it into a one of a kind piece. Pricing is on request, once we can see the stones and talk through the design at the counter at 9 King Street.
